Charles "Ed" E. Mullis Obituary

Charles E. “Ed” Mullis, age 85, of Rentz, passed away Thursday, January 14, 2021.

Mr. Mullis, a native of Laurens County, was born on January 11, 1936, to the late Malcolm and Eva Fountain Mullis. Ed served two years in the United States Air Force, 1954-1956, gaining an education on microwaves and electronics. After his service in the military, he pursued a career with Crestview Telephone Company. Mr. Mullis moved to Rentz, GA, in 1978 and became the General Manager of Progressive Rural Telephone Company. In 1990 he became a founding member of the first cellular/wireless service in rural Georgia, Cellular Plus, and was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge.  Ed retired from management at Progressive Rural in September 2000 but continued farming as long as his health allowed.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters, Kemple Faircloth and Joyce Mullis, and brother, Everett Mullis.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Gilbert Mullis, of Rentz; sons, Eddy Mullis (Anna), of Rentz, and Gary Mullis, of Cadwell; grandchildren, Rebecca Rogers (Allen), Thea Mullis, and Dylan Mullis (Jordie); and brother, DM Mullis.

Graveside services will be held for Mr. Mullis at 3:00 PM on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Rentz Cemetery. Rev. Grady Mimbs and Rev. Tom Vann will officiate.
