Albert W Genz Ventnor, New Jersey Obituary

Albert W Genz

Albert William Genz, Sr., 58, Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, passed away at his beautiful home surrounded by family on January 13, 2021. Through his short but meaningful 58 years, he made many friends who knew him as Al, Big Al, and Coach Al. Born on March 4, 1962, in Holy Redeemer Hospital in Philadelphia, he was a man of two very different worlds, starting in Philadelphia, PA, and moving with his mother and sisters at age 9 to the most rural of areas in Northeastern Pennsylvania, a place called, New Albany. He started his adult life in Atlantic City, NJ, where he later moved with Liz to raise their family in Ocean City, NJ. He was well known as a casino man as he spent almost his entire working life in the gaming industry. He had employment at the Golden Nugget, Tropicana, Playboy, Taj Mahl, Trump Plaza, where he spent thirty-years and finally concluded his working career as the Beverage Storeroom Supervisor Borgata Casino, all in Atlantic City. Coach Al became a dedicated volunteer for the Ocean City Youth Athletic Association; he showed his love of sports and his children throughout his coaching career. He coached boy’s t-ball, baseball, and both boy’s and girl’s basketball. Nurturing his son’s love and talent in football, Al coached and served as president of Ocean City Hawks Football Association for over a decade. As a dedicated community member and volunteer, he coached long after his son had moved on. His love of sports was also for his enjoyment, including bowling at the King Pin Lanes, golfing, fishing, crabbing, and trash-talking on the Suffolk Avenue Courts while playing basketball. And as recently as last week, he was crowned fantasy football champion; he was a sports guru. Survivors include his wife Diane and their fur baby, Remi of EHT; his former wife, Liz Genz, who is the mother of his three children; Albert Genz Jr., Alicia Genz, and Ashley Genz all of New Jersey: his two sisters; Lynn and Jim Spence, of Lopez, PA, and Lori and Kevin Morrison, of Sugar Run, PA: his nine grandchildren, Nauttikka, Khamar, Kareem, Ayanna, Nahjaye, Christopher, Kaelani, Aveyan, and Kamryn. He was the special crazy uncle with a rubber finger to Veronica and Jonathan Morrison. Al benefitted from many family relationships through marriage including Ruthie, Dana, Robert, Carol, Kathy, Pat, Maureen, and ten nieces and nephews through marriage. Al was preceded in death by his mother, Donna T. Genz, his father Albert J. Genz, and his extended McMonagle family members, Pop-Pop, Bill, and Pat. A private family-only service has been planned.
