Maggie Lavine Walker Obituary

Maggie Lavine Walker was born on March 5, 1939 in New Orleans, LA to the loving union of the late Andrew Williams and Clothilda Randolph Williams. She was baptized at the age of 9 years old at Stronger Hope Baptist Church in New Orleans. After later relocating to Donaldsonville, LA with her family, she became a member of Second Mount Olive Baptist Church and served as a dedicated choir member under the leadership of the late Reverends Coleman Johnson and James Gipson (succeeding). On September 22, 1955, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late John Dorsey, Sr. To that union were born six children: (three boys) John Dorsey, Jr.; Andrew Alonzo Dorsey; and Reginald Keith Dorsey; (and three girls) Thasretta Deon Dorsey, Jacqueline Kaye Dorsey, and Merial Juwan Dorsey. Amid raising her children, Maggie enrolled in Delta Community College and attended for a season. Later, she chose to continue and complete her secondary education in pursuit of obtaining her certification in Administrative Services at Plaquemine Votec School in Plaquemine, LA. She later received her diploma through Donaldsonville High School in 1979. In February of 1982, Maggie gave birth to another daughter, Gwendolyn Naomi Williams (Ester). Eight years later, on June 16, 1990, she was married to the-now late Junior Walker. She was employed with the Ascension Parish School Board as a Food Service Member for 15 years beginning in 1986, and took great pride in her work. In 1993, The Lord led Maggie to The Counsel of God Ministries, also in Donaldsonville, LA, under the leadership of the late Pastor Clarence Johnson, Sr. and current Pastor Doris Johnson. As she began her membership at this local body of believers, Sis. Maggie’s relationship with Jesus Christ began to flourish as she commenced to receive further knowledge of salvation, confess Christ as her personal Lord and Savior, and get filled with God’s Holy Spirit. At C.O.G.M., she began to operate in even more of her functional gifts by serving on the Board of Directors and was faithful in the Ministries of Helps. This included being a praise team member, a soul winner, an intercessor / prayer warrior, and the lead financial secretary until her health began to be challenged. Both employees and inhabitants of the Donaldsonville Nursing Home knew her for her encouraging visitations as she’s prayed and ministered the Word of God to them. At long last, Sis. Maggie answered the call and became a licensed Minister at her home church of Counsel of God Ministries on December 9, 2018. She knew that if God wouldn’t heal her on “this” side, then she would obtain it on “the other” side – and on January 12, 2021, she left all her infirmities behind as God reached down and took her to her eternal resting place, where she received her healing and her everlasting reward! Sis. Maggie has sown good seeds, impacted our lives, left awe-inspiring legacy, and deeply embedded the imprint of her love on all our hearts! She was preceded in transition by her Mother, Clothilda Solete; Father, Andrew Williams; Stepfather, Lawrence Solete; three uncles: Rev. L.S. Randolph, Johnnie Randolph (also known as “Buster”) Harry Randolph; four aunts; one Grandson, Glenard Bell, Jr.; and one son: John Dorsey, Jr. Maggie leaves to cherish her precious memories her, two sons: Andrew Dorsey, Sr. (Peggy) and Reginald Dorsey; four daughters: Thasretta Dorsey-Nelson (Michael), Jacqueline Dorsey-Bell, Merial Alcee (Vernon), and Gwendolyn Walker; one adopted daughter: Benita Coso; one god-daughter: Candice Millien; one god-son: Burnell Harvin; one brother: Yusuf Muhammad (“Burnell Jones”); four sisters: Frances Croom, Ruby Curley, Vanessa Taylor, and Iantha Gail Millien, 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, loved ones, and friends.
