Carl Epperson, age 70, of Sumner, died Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at University Hospital in Columbia.

Funeral services will be Friday, January 15, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home in Brookfield with Holly Stanley officiating.  Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Sumner.  The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Carl Gene, son of Orville and Ethel (Bloss) Epperson, was born October 6, 1950, in Brookfield.  On July 26, 1975, he married Carla Goddard. 

Carl was a long-time farmer and manager of Sportsman Inn in Sumner.  He also worked at Swan Lake Refuge, was a boilermaker for 5 years and processed geese for over 22 years.

He was a past member of Sumner Sportsman Club and a current VFW member in Grants, New Mexico, the Sumner Fire Department and Friends of Swan Lake Refuge.

Survivors include his wife, Carla of the home; two daughters, Shuana McBee of Sumner and Racheal Simpson and husband, Mike of Butler; two sons, Carl Robert Montgomery and wife, Sharlene of Sumner and Homer Epperson and wife, Stephanie of Brookfield; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three brothers, Keith Epperson and wife, Shirley of Rothville, Max Epperson and wife, Betty of Abingdon, Illinois and Donnie Epperson and wife, Shirley of Marceline; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Homer Douglas; a daughter Carlinda Epperson; and two brothers, Eddie Epperson and Jerry Epperson.
