Amelia Herrera Alcazar Obituary

Amelia Herrera Alcazar; age 90, January 7, 2021. Amelia was born to Faustino Herrera and Andrea Salas Herrera, in McAllen, Texas, on January 24, 1930. She passed away from Covid 19 on January 7, 2021, 3:30 pm at Northwestern Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, Illinois. Family members were all blessed to be able to speak to her before she went on to be with the Lord. Some of Amelia’s children (who tested positive for Covid 19) were unable to be present due to Covid 19 associated restrictions. Thankfully, her daughter Stella Howard and son in law Loni Howard, were able to be present with Amelia until she passed to eternal glory. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Erineo Alcazar, her parents, sister Maria “Chabela” Herrera, brothers Juan and Pablo Herrera and her first born grandson Brian J. Madden. She was one of 12 children born to migrant workers. She is survived by four sisters and three brothers. Amelia raised five children, three daughters and two sons. She prayed for her children, family and friends daily. She often knew when our spirits are troubled and would reach out to us. She always made sure she cooked home meals when her children were growing up and not only fed and drove her children to school but also did the same for other children in the neighborhood. She loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and enjoyed her time with each one. Amelia worked at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Winfield, IL. for 52 years. She enjoyed working at St. John the Baptist and loved interacting with children from school. She often told stories of bumping into some of those students she helped in the cafeteria or school as adults, who now have their own children at St. John’s School. It made her very happy that they took the time to say “hi” and ask her if she remembered them. She loved getting Birthday Cards from students. She saved every card. Amelia is survived by her sons Victor Alcazar and Ruben (Polly) Alcazar, daughters Susanna (David) Madden, Sandra Alcazar and Stella (Loni) Howard. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren Kristy (Richard) Thompson, Timothy Madden, Dominique Alcazar-Ratcliff and Alexandra Ratcliff. Her great-grandchildren Lane and Liam Madden and Amelia Alcazar-Curtis. She is also survived by three brother in- laws and three sister in-laws and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be private. Arrangements by Williams-Kampp Funeral Home. For info 630-668-0016 or www.williams-kampp.com
