Steven Scott Eskra Obituary

Steven Scott Eskra was born August 15, 1956 to Jack and Julie Eskra in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He spent most of his childhood in Owatonna, Minnesota where he learned his love of golf, hockey and created lifelong friendships. He graduated from Owatonna High School in 1975, and furthered his education graduating from St. Cloud State University receiving his Bachelor's Degree in Business.

Steve began his career in the insurance business at Federated in Owatonna, Minnesota. He joined Apollo Insurance where he spent the bulk of his career. He was respected professionally, and his customers and co-workers were like friends.

Steve married Chery (Holt) Eskra and though the two divorced, they remained close friends and raised their daughter Makayla.

Steve’s daughter Makayla was one of his greatest joys in life, and the only person who could test his unwavering patience.

Steve married the love of his life, Teri in 1995. They enjoyed 25 amazing years together.

Above all the greatest joys of his life were his two grandchildren Wyatt and Ava. He never missed a game or performance. He taught them how to swim, ice skate, throw a ball, and swing a club. But the most important things he taught them were kindness, compassion, and the joy of life.

Family meant everything to Steve, though the distance was long, the love was deep. Every year, no matter what, a way was found to be together. Whether his brother Casey came from San Diego, or his Mom Julie, and his sister Amie and her family came from Canada, it was a priority for all. When the “Eskra Clan” got together you could be sure it was a party and they could be heard laughing for miles. Treasured memories were made.

Steve had a love for fishing and hunting that was deepened by his son-in-law Adam. He truly thought of him as a son. They enjoyed many hunting trips, with time spent in the woods or on the lake bonding, even if they never got anything!

Steve had a long list of nicknames including; Carp, Griz, Big E, Rumba, Chop Liver (By his Granddaughter Ava), But he always answered to Oh Shhteeeev!!

2020 was not good for most, but for Steve it was one of the best. He and Teri spent the winter in California, golfing and enjoyed daily walks with his brother by the ocean.  He enjoyed boating and seeing his friends on the lake; may have even had a cocktail or two. He had an epic Fall, starting with his second career Hole-In-One! He took grandson Wyatt out for his first-time deer hunting (be sure to ask Wyatt how that went)!! He enjoyed hunting trips, golf trips and never slowed down. He truly lived his life to the fullest!!

Steve made an impression on everyone he met. He had a smile that was infectious and a way of making everyone feel special. His character was beyond admirable. He was honest, kind and a great listener. He always showed up, even if he wasn’t on time. He will be missed by many.

“As the Days, Months, and Years seem shorter. My love for life, family, friends and the fun, and need for patience grows stronger. I am never guaranteed tomorrow with or without cancer. I am Blessed!”    -Steve E
