Alex Maxie Sills

Alex Maxie Sills, 86, of Petal, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Forrest General Hospital. Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Carterville Baptist Church with visitation before starting at 2 p.m. Interment will follow at Carterville Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Sills was a member of Carterville Baptist Church for 45 years where he served as a deacon. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge York Rite. He was also a member of the Rotary Club. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He worked for 38 years for Inland Container and retired as the Production Manager in 1993. He was a fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and bowling at Southern Lanes. His most passionate hobby was golf, he played in the Senior League at Timberton Golf Club. Above everthing, he was a good Christian and family man. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Blaine and David Sills; and his brother, Weyman Sills. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Flo Sills of Petal; his son, Bob (Karen) Sills of Petal; his grandchildren, Alexis Sills of Starkville, Ali (Luke) Tucker of Petal, and Eric Tisdale of Petal; his brother, Charles (Linda) Sills of Powder Springs, GA; his sisters, Lila Sue Barber of Rome, GA, and Doris Terry of Rome, GA; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gideons International.
