James Marvin Paulson Obituary

James Marvin Paulson, 98, of Franklin, Indiana entered into rest on January 4th, 2021.

James was born to the late Gustav Victor Paulson and Susannah Dracy in Wausau, Wisconsin on January 1st, 1923.

James married the late Marjorie B. (Burton) Paulson on May 11th 1946.

James served in the Marines Corp. from 1942 to 1945 as a WWII veteran, ranking as Lieutenant Colonel at the time of his discharge. In addition to his service in the Marines, James earned a Doctorate degree and taught as the Associate Dean of Engineering at Wayne State University. He was revered by his students; they would always keep contact even after graduating. James formed a fraternity and many of his former students would visit and play cards during Christmas break. He was loved and admired by many and he was very studious; he never stopped learning. James thrived on continuing education and learning about various subjects; he would read two books a month.

James retired at 62, and still pursued his engineering skills. He designed a house that encompassed a log cabin in Greenbush, Michigan and would designed intensive gardens. In addition to his Doctorate degree in civil engineering, he also earned a football scholarship in Citadel, South Carolina and earned a Master degree at Illinois Institute of Technology.

Apart from his accomplishments and achievements, he was humble and very loving to both his children and adored his grandchildren. They were the light of his life and an outstanding father and grandparent. He will be missed dearly.

James is survived by his daughter, Vicki Cherry, and four grandchildren, Andrew Cruse, Matthew Cruse, Sarah Cruse, and Amy Crowe. He is also a great-grandfather to Michael Cruse and Lillian Crowe.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Susannah, his wife, Marjorie, and his son Michael.
