Thomas (Tom) Marvin Hickey was 76 years when he died Saturday, January 2, 2021 from causes related to Cancer. Tom had just spent the last 8 weeks of 2020 living in the Vancouver VA Community Life Center where he was transported daily for radiation treatments to the Portland VA. Once his treatments were finished on December 30, 2020, Tom insisted on returning to Kamlu Retirement Home where he was living in his own apartment for almost two years. Kamlu has been a retirement home for over 50 years and was recommended by Dan, Nancy and Chuck Hickey since their mother Donna had previously stayed there. It also came highly recommended in the Retirement Listings in Vancouver. The entire staff were extraordinary during his stay. Tom was born on 8/5/1944 in Tacoma, WA, to Ellen J. Hickey and Daniel F. Hickey. Siblings: Daniel, Larry, Jerry, Marge, Kay, Beatrice, Edna, Florence. Former wife: Sandie with children Lane and Mardi. Education: High School Diploma – Tacoma, WA, US Naval School, Fire Control Technician – San Diego, CA. Reeves Instrument Corp, Certificate in Operation and Maintenance Radar Bomb Scoring System, AN/MSQ-44 – Garden City, NY. Enlisted in Department of US Navy – December 1962 to December. He was stationed: 1962 Seattle, WA, 1963 San Diego, CA, 1964 to 1965 Atsugi, Japan, 1966 San Diego, CA, 1967 Merchant Marine – Seaman. His awards: National Defense Service Medal and Viet Nam Service Medal. Employment: US Navy, Paper Co/Printer in Tacoma, US Merchant Marine – Seaman, Tektronix Inc - Mechanical Maintenance & CRT Technician Electrician with IBEW 48. Thomas is survived by former spouse Sandie Savage, 29 (smile), son Lane M. Hickey, 51, daughter Mardi J. Fitzgerald, 49, grandson Logan Stromberg, 21, and hundreds of amazing cousins. Thomas is laid to rest on Friday, January 8, 2021, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, in Arlington West Veterans section, 2-66.
