Aurora, Utah. Our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Brooks Fred Curtis, age 83 passed away in Gunnison, UT on January 5, 2021. Dad was born April 4, 1937, in Salina, Utah, a son of Alfred Lloyd Curtis and Maxine Morrison Curtis. Dad was swept off his feet by the love of his life; Joan Martin Curtis. Dad and mom were sealed for time and eternity in the Manti LDS Temple on October 4, 1957. Together they raised four children: Allen, Tamra, Leisa, and Brooke. Dad was a true cowboy. He loved everything about the outdoors, farming, camping, and his favorite, riding and training his horses. He was an incredible carpenter, meticulous welder, and it didn't take long for bosses and coworkers to comment that he was one of the hardest workers they had ever met. He took pride in everything he did. He was impeccable with his word, a loyal friend and service-oriented. He always offered a helping hand and was one of the first to serve. He belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where he was a quiet yet devoted member serving in bishoprics as the ward clerk, the Elder Quorums Presidency, High Priest Group leader, and in the Sunday School Presidency. Dad enjoyed teasing and pulling pranks on his family, friends, and coworkers. His loyalty to his family and high standards are a legacy that will continue on with his posterity. Brooks is survived by his children Allen and Natalie Curtis of Salt Lake City, Leisa Curtis of Yuma, AZ, Brooke Curtis and Catherine Fang of Yuma, AZ; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Que and Barbara Curtis of Salt Lake City, and Coy Curtis of Salt Lake City. Dad was preceded in death by his “Special Angel” and wife; Joan Martin Curtis, his parents; a daughter Tamra Johnson, and a brother McLloyd Curtis. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Mission at Community Assisted Living for the great care they gave dad for the last five months. We also want to thank Jason Okerlund for answering all of the phone calls and for going above and beyond in helping us with all of the transitions necessary in giving dad the best care possible. A special thanks to the Gunnison Valley Hospital nurses and doctors for seeing to our father and family in his final hours. All of the compassion and care is greatly appreciated. Due to Covid-19, funeral services will be private for family and close friends. Graveside services will be live-streamed starting at 12 Noon on Friday, January 8th and will be found on Brooks’ obituary at springerturner.com 15 minutes prior to the service.
