Guy Harry Lucien Giroux

The man. The myth. The legend.  It’s with our greatest sadness that our dad, husband, gramps, Poppa, brother, and brother in law was called by the Creator to his Tee Pee in Heaven.  Anyone who knew Guy…knew that he would have to have his last bash on New Year’s Eve 2020 before he headed up to heaven on New Year’s Day at the young age of 84 (although he never believed he was that old). 

Guy lived a hard life and always wrote and played by his own rules.  He loved to laugh, tease, and joke with you.  He created many friendships throughout the years, and we know some of them will be at heaven’s gate to meet him with a cold beer.  Knowing dad, he won’t mention that he’s been sober!  In dad’s younger years, he played guitar in numerous bands, loved going to the bar (then the legion) and dancing.  We have many memories of camping, travelling especially to BC in the summer, and stopping at all the cheesy roadside tours. The memorable Saturday AND Sunday afternoon jam sessions at our house.  Dad threw some of the best weekend memories, but as he got older, his favorite time was to be spent with his family especially his grandkids and his dogs Pepper and Daisy.  Dad always had an open-door policy at our home.  Many friends often stayed over, heck, some would be there for days.

Dad was one to do what he wanted, when he wanted.  The best thing that he gained in life was meeting Vonda…his wife of 56 years.  She was his June to his Johnny.  Dad was a Residential School survivor who later in life spoke about his time there.  As an adult, knowing about his struggles in residential school, he now finally made sense.  In his younger years, dad was an alter boy in the Catholic Church and although his residential school experience was disturbing, he maintained his belief in God. Good or bad, he still prayed every night before bed.

During his marriage to Vonda, they had 4 amazing children in a short amount of time.  They lived in Grouard, Vulcan, Grouard, and the day mom was leaving Grouard to move south…she looked in the rear-view mirror and to what did she see?  Yep Dad…running behind the car…he hopped in and the journey to Pincher Creek began.  They lived in Pincher Creek until his passing.

Guy is going to be missed terribly by his wife Vonda of 56 years, son Darryl (Jodie) Giroux, son Jimmy Giroux, favorite daughter Terry (Kevin) Ross and the late favorite daughter Tina (Todd) Giroux. His grandkids Ryan (Sara) Gorzitza, Brandon Giroux, Ross Giroux, Adrienne Fraser, Lindy Giroux, Sheryl McKay, Tanna Ross, Lexxi (Dan) Ross, and Cierra (Seth) Ross, and Jett and Zakk Giroux-Harper.  He was blessed with 8 Great grandkids and one on the way (which he was so happy when he seen the Ultrasound pictures). He is survived by his Sisters Rosemarie (Cecil) Bellerose of Edmonton, Valerie (Kent) Strudwick of Medicine Hat, Donna (Blaine) Alexander of Sherwood Park, the late Joan (Ken) Staples of Lac La Biche and Brother Leslie Giroux of Edmonton.  Brothers in Law Ron (Karen) Fisher of Kelowna, Gary Fisher of Vernon, Darcy (Sherri) Fisher from Marysville, Washington.  Sisters in Law Brenda (Don) Cunningham of Sherwood Park, Rhonda (Pete) Schaurete of Lethbridge.  Many nieces and nephews who could tell many stories and memories about Good ole Uncle Guy.

Guy was predeceased by his youngest daughter Tina Giroux, parents Jean and Marguerite Giroux of Grouard, AB, his sister Arlene Giroux and sister Joan Staples.  Brother Thomas (Sonny) Giroux, brother Brian Giroux, and Nephew Michael Staples.  Father and Mother in Law, Art and Ione Fisher of Pincher Creek, and sister in law Diane Fisher of Edmonton.
