John Joseph Duffy Obituary

CUSHING – John Joseph Duffy, 86, passed away Monday, January 4th, 2021 at 5:30 am at the Sussman House in Rockport, after fighting a number of health issues. Born July 13, 1934 in Chicago, IL to Thomas P. and Anne (Walsh) Duffy. He would go on to graduate from Boston College, and serve as an officer in the US Navy, stationed in California and at the Panama Canal. On May 23, 1980 John married Linda (Menschick). Being a New Englander, he loved the ocean, sailing, motoring his boat up the coast of Maine, being in the great outdoors and traveling around the world. He was a regional sales rep throughout New England for such companies as Lane, Venture, etc. After retiring to Maine, he enjoyed the rugged coast and the locals. He was a master of storytelling and could spin many a yarn and enjoyed making people laugh. In the same breath, he struggled with relationships and his past. He was a fighter to the end and wanted to live but every fighter has to answer the final bell. He will not be forgotten by those whose paths he crossed. Predeceased by his parents, his two brothers, Thomas and Neil Duffy, and his sister, Mary Storti, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda Duffy of Cushing; his two sons, John “Jack” Duffy (Marie) of Ada, OH; and Brian Duffy (Colleen) of Charlottesville, VA; three grandsons: Joshua Duffy (May) of Riverview, FL; Caleb Duffy of Ada, OH; and Brendan Duffy of Charlottesville, VA; two stepsons: Jeff Adams (Carol) of Port Charlotte, FL; and David Adams (Grace) of Plymouth, MA; two stepdaughters: Leslie Greeley of Kingston, MA; and Wendy Coleman (Chris) of Duxbury, MA; step grandchildren: Drew Adams, Nicole Adams, Emerson Adams, Jeffrey Adams, Joey Greeley, Emily Greeley, Allie Coleman, Amanda Coleman, Grace Coleman and Peter Coleman and one great grandchild on the way. He also leaves behind many friends, family, and of course his horse Nordy, who he drove on the Carriage Roads at Acadia National Park and with the sleigh in the field at home. Due to the Covid-19 situation, his wish was to be cremated and a gathering of family and friends will take place during the summer of 2021 to remember him. Memorial contributions can be made to the Cushing Rescue Squad, PO Box 20, Cushing, ME 04563
