Jack R. McCrory

McCrory Jack R. Age 40 of Irwin, formerly of Plum Borough (DOB: 12.03.1980) passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with esophageal cancer on Friday January 1, 2021. Survived by beloved wife Heather L. McCrory, son of Jack E. McCrory and Bonnie L. Brannagan, brother of Jacqueline (Michael) Gentile, Melissa (Jason) McCrory Kantz, Christy (Jason) Finley and sister-in -law Christina Hughes. Uncle of Giaco, Donato and Angelo Gentile, Cadeyn McCrory, Rylee Brinton, Hanna and Bryan Kantz, Caleb and Danika Finley. Nephew of Paul Dennis Brannagan and Suzanne (Dave) Brannagan Riffle along with many family and friends. Jack graduated from Plum Borough in 1999. He then went on to earn a B.S. from West Virginia University (WVU) in 2004 followed by a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) at Chatham University in Pgh., Pa in 2006. As a Physical Therapist, Jack utilized his smooth, calm demeanor and his dazzling smile, encouraging patients to overcome their injuries and accomplish their goals. He had a natural ability to build a strong professional relationship with his patients while making them comfortable, relaxed and smile. He would also stop by “Grams” for a bowl of her special chili and a quick nap and then back to work. Jack began playing ice hockey when he was eleven when he joined the Allegheny Badgers as a goaltender. He played junior varsity and varsity hockey for Plum Borough School District, earning WPIHL All Star recognition three times. During his junior year he started playing with the Steel City Stars and was then recruited and played for the Pittsburgh Penguins Junior B team. His career also included playing goal tender for WVU while earning his bachelor’s degree. Jack held season tickets to the Pittsburgh Penguins games. He was an accomplished golfer and snowboarder. He enjoyed cooking and was best known for “specialty crab cakes” where family would line up for their portions. His passions also included working on his 2012 black Camaro SS. One of his favorite songs was from John Denver, “Take Me Home, Country Roads”. He was drawn to German Shepherds where he developed inseparable bonds. Most of all, Jack was known for his innate ability to make his friends and family laugh through his humor and antics. Jack married the love of his life, Heather L. McCrory in 2012. Their unconditional love and amazing bond guided them through their hardships, life decisions and their accomplishments. Heather, without hesitation, stayed by his side through good times and bad, sickness and in health, love, and devotion. Jack’s family loved him with unyielding devotion and dedication. Jack, we love you, we love you even more and we will miss you forever and forever. Family and friends will be received Monday January 4th from 2-8pm at Soxman Funeral Homes Ltd., 7450 Saltsburg road (at Universal Road), Penn Hills, 15235.Please note, due to gathering restrictions, visitors may be asked to wait in their vehicles before entering the building so as to maintain occupancy limits. A private funeral service will be held at Soxman Funeral Home on Tuesday January 5th at 10:40am. Interment will immediately follow at Brush Creek Cemetery, Irwin, Pa. 15642. A celebration of life will be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Esophageal Cancer Action Network, www.ecan.org

Jack sent me many messages of support when I was diagnosed with EC 5 years ago even though he didn't know me. He was a good guy!

So sorry to hear about the passing of Jack. I have fond memories of Jack and his dad Jack at the IHC hockey schools. They became dear friends. May God grant the family peace and comfort during this very difficult time. Rest in peace my friend.
