<div><p class="obits-bio"> GARRISON, JAY ARTHUR, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, at home in Knoxville. <br /> He was a passionate man of faith and a fourth-generation member of Fountain City United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Chancel Choir and taught the Whobodies Sunday School Class. He was also active beyond the local church, as the chair of the Knoxville District Trustees of The United Methodist Church. He served as Chancellor of the Holston Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church under several bishops. Beginning in 2008 he served on numerous sessions of the Judicial Council of The United Methodist Church. He was past chair of the Board of Directors of Asbury Centers, Inc., the United Methodist Homes for the elderly in East Tennessee. He was the valedictorian of the 1967 class at Knoxville Central High School and attended the University of Tennessee as a Neyland Scholar. He marched four years in the Pride of the Southland Marching Band. His devotion to music was evidenced in 2006 when he was named a lifetime member of the Pride of the Southland for his work with the Alumni Band Association. He was a distinguished military graduate in the UT ROTC program and served as an officer in the United States Army Reserve in the Adjutant General</p></div>
