Virden, IL – Helen Pauline Rolando, 91, of Virden, passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at her home. Helen was born May 24, 1929, in Divernon to Carl and Waneta (Bradley) Van Huss. She married Thomas W. Rolando on December 23, 1949, and they would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary this year. She was employed at The Virden Recorder, retiring in 2009. Helen loved spending time with her family. She was a woman of prayer and great faith and lived her life with Christ as her example. She was a member of Prairie Temple Assembly of God Church in Virden. Helen is survived by her husband, Thomas; daughters, Margaret (Frank) Kohl of Granite City, Diane Collins of Phoenix, Arizona, Carole (Greg) Toppmeyer of Virden, and Carla (Eric) Appel of Miramar, Florida; ten grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Helen is also survived by her brother, James (Mary) Van Huss; and sisters, Geraldine Singer and Esther (Aaron) Brewer. Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Jasper, Charles, Robert, and Tom Van Huss; sisters, Hallie Lair, Lorene Olive, Eileen Elston, and Laura Henke; and son-in-law, Lonnie Collins. Due to Covid-19, private family services will be held on Monday, December 28, 2020, at Prairie Temple Church. Burial will be at the Virden Cemetery with Rev. Terry Turner officiating. The Airsman-Calvert Funeral Home in Virden is in charge of arrangements.
