Neil Evan Morgan (64), son of Leo V. Morgan and Darlene M. (Poore) Morgan was born in Mt. Ayr, IA on January 4th, 1956. He graduated from Mt. Ayr Community High School in 1974. After high school he attended Iowa State University, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Business in 1978. After graduation, he remained a dedicated Cyclone fan, which as many know, was no easy task.
He was united in marriage to Cindabeth Sims on April 28th, 1979. Neil was blessed with two daughters, Julie Suzanne (1981) and Kathlyn Elizabeth (1982). He started his professional career as a Farm Manager with Bloomington National Bank in Bloomington, IL. After a couple of years in Illinois, Neil decided the farm was calling him home. He was fortunate to work alongside his dad for the next 25 years raising cattle and row crop. In 2000, Neil became Ringgold County Assessor and served in that role until 2016. He was a self-taught Assessor and took pride in running a cost-effective office. He was instrumental in computerizing many areas of the assessment process including his own development of valuation software. He was an expert when it came to the ag productivity formula used by the Department of Revenue and even challenged them a time or two on their final numbers. His knowledge of this formula earned him the Iowa State Association of Assessors Outstanding Member Award in 2014. Neil also enjoyed participating in Lions Club, Ringgold Singers, the United Methodist Church, the Ringgold County Democratic Party and serving on the boards of both Farm Bureau and Rural Electric Cooperative.
In recent years, Neil enjoyed traveling with his special friend, Kathy Scott, to many locations including Alaska, Colorado, Texas, Arizona and Hawaii. They also enjoyed spending time camping, tailgating at Chiefs games and browsing books at Barnes & Noble. Neil enjoyed talking about history, politics, and sports and never missed an opportunity for good conversation.
On December 16, 2020, Neil is reunited in heaven with his father Leo Morgan and brother-in-law John Wright.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Julie (Justin) Neas, Katie (Matt) Routh; grandchildren: Claire, Nash and Libby Routh, Ella Waske, Clay (Amber) Neas and Brody Neas; mother Darlene Morgan; brother Ron (Marta) Morgan of Ames, sisters Connie (Gary) Wiechmann of Atlantic, Nancy Wright of Panora and Jan Morgan of Greenfield; and special friend Kathy Scott of Sharpsburg.
Memorials are in his name to be decided.
