Alma Carol Victoria Rollins Obituary

Alma Carol Victoria Rollins, née Hevle, departed this world on December 8th, 2020 at the age of 98, to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Born July 16,1922, in Irene, South Dakota, Alma grew up loving her family's farm and the midwestern countryside. The sixth of nine children, she was dearly loved by her parents, Gustav and Ida Hevle, and enjoyed a happy childhood in a home filled with music. Alma's loving personality extended beyond her home into her work. During WWII, she served in the Navy as a member of the WAVES. She spent much of her life working at the VA Hospital in Minneapolis, and later at Fairview Riverside Hospital. In 1949, she met Harry Rollins and soon fell in love with the man who would be her husband. They were married June 9, 1951 at Salem Lutheran Church in Alma's native Irene. Partners in the truest sense of the word, Alma and Harry were the portrait of a family-focused and selfless marriage. Later in life, she enjoyed a busy retirement at Nokomis Square Apartments, where she loved playing cards with her friends, sharing root beer floats with her grandchildren and gifting her neighbors with banana bread. Ever the gracious host, Alma ensured that anyone who entered her home felt like family. She made every guest feel welcome with music, comfortable conversation, and a great deal of food (invariably the 'favorite' of whomever she was hosting). Alma is preceded in death by her beloved husband Harry, parents Gustav and Ida Hevle, siblings Mildred, Sylvia, Gilman, Orin, Lorraine, Mae and Kenneth. She is survived by her five children: Steve Rollins (Julia Holliday), Nancy (Ross) Amundson, Mike (Cathy) Rollins, Beth (Steve) Gustafson, and Andrea (Paul) Ulstrom, her thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, brother Gene (Glenda) Hevle, sister-in-law Ruth Hevle, and many nieces and nephews. Gathering of family and friends on Friday, July 16, 2021, from 10-11 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 AM. Family will have a private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Alma’s selflessness and love will be missed by all who knew her. Memorials may be sent to the donor’s choice.
