Donald A. Vogt

Donald A. Vogt, born in New Haven May 22, 1946, passed away peacefully is his home on Sunday, December 6, 2020 comforted by Crystal Thomas, his wife and companion for over 40 years. Son of the late Milton and Bernice (Hoyt) Vogt and stepfather to Coral Thomas Torgerson of North Carolina, Scot Thomas (and Tanya Cutolo) of Killingworth, and Heather Thomas (and Chris Mitrzyk) of North Branford. He is also survived by five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, sister Marilyn Slifka of Madison, sister-in-law Maureen Vogt of Guilford, sister-in-law Maureen Clancey Jackson (Keith Stephens) of Georgia, and brother-in-law John Clancey (Gayle) of West Haven CT. In addition, he was an extraordinary Uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Keith Vogt. Don owned and operated The Finished Touch painting company. He was a long-time resident of Guilford and described by his many life-long friends, his family and anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him, as a sweet, warm-hearted person whose contagious smile and carefree spirit would light up a room. Don was a licensed private pilot, flight instructor, and aviation enthusiast who spent many years flying throughout the Connecticut area. He had a love of travel, cooking and well known for his apple pie. He was a WWII history buff and a member of the Guilford Sportsmen’s Club for 41 years. Prior to the pandemic, Don enjoyed frequent visits to Pepe’s Pizza with friends. Don embraced life and enriched others. He was a warm, smiling, and considerate individual who surrounded himself with close lifelong friendships. Don could be seen driving his 1940 Chevy pickup truck and listening to du-op music. Always up for a new adventure, anything that would bring him closer to comradery and genuine connection with family and friends. For those who knew him well, they will never forget “hey dude” and smile as they think of Don. Due to the ongoing pandemic, private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
