Sheryl Lee Brown

Sheryl Lee Usher Brown passed away peacefully on her birthday, December 7, 2020 in the Billings St. Vincent Hospital.  Her last wish, to be able to spend at least part of her birthday with her deceased husband, was granted.

Sheryl was born Dec 7, 1944 in Greensboro, NC to Virgil Paul Usher and Martha Josephine Crow Usher; their only child.  She used to tell her grandchildren to be grateful for their siblings, as she never had someone else to share the blame when something went wrong!

With her father in the military, she moved quite often, living in Plant City, FL; Port Tampa, FL; Casablanca, Morocco; Bunker Hill, IN; and Tallahassee, FL.  Her mother supplemented the family income as a hairdresser during their moves.  After spending grades 9-11 in Casablanca, Morocco, they moved back to Bunker Hill, Indiana, where Sheryl graduated from high school. When she was 17, with her parents’ permission, Sheryl was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She attended nursing school at Florida State University and became a registered nurse. Sheryl served in many callings while in the church. Along with much Relief Society work, she was often called upon to help members of the ward with her nursing talents. Most recently, she found much joy teaching primary age children.

On August 18, 1967, Sheryl married Robert Alan Schriever in Salt Lake City, UT.  Two daughters were born to this union, Janelle and Carrie.  Bob died in 1972.

In 1975 she married widower Merlin Bartholomew Fryer and resided in Bountiful, UT for several years until they divorced.  Merlin had two daughters, Mericia and Myra, both of whom she loved and helped raise.

On October 24, 1992 she married William Winn Brown.  She resided in Lovell, WY for the remainder of her life. Winn passed away on August 24, 2013.

Sheryl was a registered nurse for several decades and spent many years as a head surgical nurse, working with gifted doctors such as Russell M. Nelson.  After moving to Wyoming, she took a break from nursing to help start and run a wholesale bakery on the Winn Brown property, outside of her adopted town of Lovell.  After handing the bakery reins over to the next generation, she returned to nursing at the New Horizons Care Center.  In “retirement”, Sheryl enjoyed gardening, genealogy, and long extended visits with her grandchildren. A special treat for her grandchildren was their summer vacations with her, working on the family ranch. Her Lovell grandchildren have fond memories of going up to Grandma’s house to read with her, learn about stars, birds, and how to sew and iron. She was an accomplished seamstress, master canner, master gardener, and devoted genealogist. Through genealogy, Sheryl stayed in touch with many branches of her family. She will be remembered as someone who was always willing to be of service and gave of her time and talents freely.

Sheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Martha; spouse, Winn; and step-son, Curtis Brown.

She is survived by Genielle and Bobbie Brown; daughters Janelle (Kody) Brown and Carrie (Terry) Rodgers; step-daughters Mericia (Don) Milligan, Myra (John) Morgan; step-children Cindy (Paul) Hansen, Scott (Raelene, Julie) Brown, Lorilyn (Tim, Wynter) Beck, Kody (Meri, Janelle, Christine, Robyn) Brown, Christine (Kurt) King, Tricia (Jeff) Garner, Curtis deceased (Erica) Brown, Travis (Beth Elaine) Brown, Leah Nicole (Nate) Lundquist, and Michael (Sharon) Brown; 93 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren; and many others who felt of her love and acceptance.

Graveside services were held Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Penrose Cemetery, where she was laid to rest beside her husband, Winn.
