James Herman Fraser, 90, of Hebron, NE passed away on December 3, 2020 in La Vista, NE at the home of his daughter Jane. Jim was born April 17, 1930 in Compton, California to Ernest L. and Mamie Morrissette Fraser.

Jim married Ann Pelland of Clyde, KS on August 8, 1959. They were blessed with 61 years of marriage and six children.

He received his bachelor’s degree from St. Benedict’s College in Atchison, KS in 1952 and a Master of Arts in Mathematics from Bowling Green State University, Bowling Green, OH in 1970. Jim taught school in Salina, KS, Ruskin, NE and ended his long teaching career in Hebron NE, where he taught 44 years. Jim had a passion for teaching that went beyond Mathematics. He instilled integrity, self-respect and encouraged students to reach their potential. Jim chose a career in education because “teaching is a profession where you are involved in interesting and stimulating things. It’s very satisfying to interact with the youth.”

Jim loved and coached baseball for many years. He was director of the Hebron Summer Recreation program for many years.

He was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he served as lector and CCD teacher. Jim was also active in Hebron Lions Club and served as secretary for many years.

He served in the United States Navy from 1952-1954 receiving an honorable discharge.

Jim was a recipient of the 1988 Freda Battey Distinguished Educator Award; Lions Club International Melvin Jones Fellowship Award in 2017.

Jim was preceded in death by his father Ernest, his mother Mamie, and two sisters Yvonne and Clarita.

He is survived by his wife Ann of Hebron, NE, and his six children, Mary Girard and husband Jeff of Kearney, NE, John and wife Jeannette of Fenton, MO, Joseph of Overland Park, KS, Thomas of Lincoln, NE, Jane Bies and husband Tim of La Vista, NE and Daniel and his wife Beth of Sioux Rapids, IA. Brother Buford (Bo) of Columbia, MO and his wife Terrylene. Niece Anne Fraser Pratt of Birmingham, AL, nephew Andrew of Columbia MO. 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren.

Private Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hebron, NE on Tuesday December 8, 2020 at 10:30 AM. Rosary will be held Tuesday at 9:30 AM at the church. Officiant will be Father Steve Major, acolyte Francis Rauner, reader Pat Kenner, organist Andrew Klatt, cantor Carlece Kenner. Congregational hymns will be “Blest Are They”, “Jesus, My Lord, My God, My All” and “Oh God Beyond All Praising.” Casket bearers are John Fraser, Joseph Fraser, Thomas Fraser, Daniel Fraser, Jeff Girard, and Tim Bies. Condolences may be left a www.krollfh.com. Open visitation will be Monday, December 7, 2020 from 2-6 PM at Kroll Funeral Home in Hebron, NE. Memorials in care of the family may be mailed to Ann Fraser 115 North 10th St. Hebron, NE 68370. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Kroll Funeral Home of Hebron, NE is in charge of arrangements.
