BILLERICA – Leonard A. Buckland, age 88, beloved husband of the late Catherine “Kay” M. (Dwyer) Buckland, who died June 15, passed away Saturday at High Pointe Hospice in Haverhill after a brief illness. He was born in Boston, August 2, 1932 a son of the late Arthur and Irene (Wilkie) Buckland and lived in Somerville before moving to Billerica at the age of 16. Mr. Buckland served in the US Navy during the Korean War where he was stationed for 6 months on the Wonson Harbor in North Korea assisting with the blockade, was a Police Officer for the Town of Billerica for 27 years retiring in 1984 as a Lieutenant and had also been the town Safety Officer. After retiring from the Billerica Police department he went to work with his son at Buckland Security in Billerica. He was a member of the Billerica Knights of Columbus and was a published poet with poetry in bronze and granite on the 1st and 2nd World War Memorial on Billerica Center common, the Korean War Memorial on Andover Rd., and in front of Billerica Town Hall at the Police, Firefighter and Emergency Medical Personnel Memorial. He is survived by two sons, Leonard Buckland Jr. and his wife Donna of Chelmsford and William Buckland of Billerica; one daughter, Kathy Blinn of ME; two brothers, Gerry Buckland of Billerica and Philip Buckland of Nashua, NH as well as eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late David Buckland and father-in-law of the late John Blinn. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, December 7, at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St. Theresa Church, Monday at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica.
