DONALD GENE EVANCHICK Obituary

Donald Gene Evanchick, 67 died peacefully on Sunday, November 29, 2020 at UH Seidman Cancer Center with family at his side. He valiantly battled a recurrence of lymphoma this past hellish year and did so with a remarkable upbeat attitude. Don was born in Cleveland, Ohio on January 16, 1953 to Ludwig and Bernadette Evanchick, the youngest of three sons. He is a 1971 graduate of St. Joseph High School and attended classes at Tri C. As a teenager he began working at Paulich Trophy where many enduring friendships began. His nickname “Cheeks” originated many moons ago on an infamous camping trip. He worked for 45 years at C Pearson Trophy where he excelled in engraving and customer service. He approached his job with high standards and a strong work ethic. Don was no slacker! Don was an intelligent guy, well read and well versed in many subjects. He knew and loved cars and was the proud owner of a 1963 Gran Turismo Studebaker. He took pride in his home, Slovenian heritage and was a connoisseur of Raddell’s sausage, potica and pugach. His true legacy lies in his ability to connect with people, evidenced by his numerous and currently heartbroken friends. He charmed us with his light hearted ways, musical serenades and keen sense of humor. He was famous for his rendition of “The Piano Man” and his robust laughter. His presence always brought a smile to your face. He loved and was loved by many of all ages and generations! Family mattered to Don and he lovingly cared for his parents in their elder years. He remained close to his Evanchick and Ambroe cousins across the US. His life was enriched by his decades-long relationship with the Goryances whom he considered his family. Don was preceded in death by parents, Bernie and Lud. He is survived by brother Dick (Cathy) of Columbus, Ohio; brother Raymond, whereabouts unknown; beloved Ambroe and Evanchick cousins; Duffy cousins Mary Pat; Rick and Cathy, Erin, Rege, Evelyn and Jonathan; Chris and Dan Collona; Brian and Catherine; Don shared a special bond with cousin, DeDe P. Boyle and her husband Denny and son Dennis. Also mourning Cheeks passing: Kim and Pam Goryance, sons CJ, Joe, Mike; Rex and Cindy Goryance, sons Jake and Matt; Mark and Karen Goryance, son Justin. He will be forever missed!! If so desired, donations can be made to UH Seidman Cancer Center in Don’s memory. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
