Eugene M. "Jay" Funk, Jr Obituary

Eugene M. “Jay” Funk, Jr., 84, of Stamford, affectionately known as “Doc”, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. Born on February 17, 1936 in Queens, He was the son of the late Eugene M. and Marion (Quinn) Funk, Sr. Jay honorably served in the US Air Force from 1954-1957. He then worked for several years as a Commercial Airline Mechanic working at several airports in the New York City area, until illness forced his early retirement while working at LaGuardia Airport. Mr. Funk enjoyed the outdoors, taking walks and admiring nature. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching football and hockey games, often while enjoying a Ballentine Ale. Jay enjoyed playing video games and even at the age of 84 was known to still “Rock a Play Station”. Besides his parents, Eugene was predeceased by a brother: Doug; and twin sister: Kay. He is survived by four sons: Eugene III (Judith) Funk of Ozone Park, Patrick Funk of Hobart, Richard (Marlena) Funk of Bloomville and Ryan Funk of Stamford; ten grandchildren: Nicholas, Joseph, Jeremiah, Alex, Kyle, Joshua, Jarred, Isabella, Ryan and Todd; the mother of his children: Suzanne Maciejko; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
