Gladys M Vondrasek Obituary

Gladys M. (Clark) Vondrasek was born on September 25, 1926 to Edward Monroe and Margaret (Deubelbeiss) Clark on a farm near Baileyville, Kansas. She was the youngest of five children. She attended a country school through the eighth grade. As a young child, the family lost their home to a fire, an event had a lasting affect on Gladys all through her life. They moved to Pawnee City some years later.

As a young adult she moved to Lincoln along with her sister Darleen where they worked at the Elgin watch factory.

Gladys and Bob met on Valentine’s Day 1947 in Table Rock. They became engaged on Easter Sunday and were married on June 24th of the same year in Marysville, Kansas.  Four children completed their family: Linda Mae, Cheryl Ann, Bobette Jean and finally Roger James.

Gladys and Bob made the Vondrasek farm south of Table Rock their home for 57 years before moving to Lincoln in 2005 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.  Gladys was a homemaker until 1967 when she began working at Pawnee County Memorial Hospital. She worked there as a nurse’s aid until retirement.

Gladys was always busy, but still found time to spend with family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were each very special to her. That was shown in the huge photo albums she created for each child. She was always taking photos everywhere she went.  She loved doing embroidery work and created many beautiful doilies, dresser scarves and quilts. Her favorite was the baby quilts.  Gladys made many patchwork quilts as well as embroidered and cross stitch quilts. She and Bob spent many evenings traveling to neighboring towns to play BINGO!!!. She continued to play as often as possible. Finally, Gladys was a shopper! She could spend hours browsing the store aisles and she always found the best bargains.

Gladys is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Bill Ebers, Bobette and Greg Bohling, and son Roger Vondrasek, Grandchildren:  Brian (Rhonda) Oenbring, Kami Ebers (Bill Catlett), Tamara Ebers (Jacob Rutherford), Jennifer Haubrich (Ted Haubrich), Clarissa Bohling, Grant (Kathy) Pearson, Kimberly Bohling (Simon Stallworthy), and Kyle Bohling. She has 11 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, sister-in-law, Norma Clark and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob, daughter Linda Pearson, sisters, Marguerite (Howard) Herrick, Darlene (Kenneth) Gilbert, brothers John Clark and Lee (Doris) Clark and nephew, Gary Herrick.
