Charles Arthur Zuzak

Dr. Charles Arthur Zuzak of Orlando, FL passed away on November 29th. He was 85. Charles was born on August 21st, 1935 in Edenborn, PA to Mary M. (Priggins) and Charles A. Zuzak. He married Charlotte A. Zuzak on August 14th, 1963, who preceded him in death. Charles received his B.A. and M.A. from The University of Notre Dame. He earned his Doctor of Philosophy from The University of Maryland in political science. He served as Dean of Arts and Sciences at The University of Tennessee at Nashville and then went on to serve as Dean of Arts and Sciences and full professor at Slippery Rock University for 21 years. He was on the Notre Dame weight lifting team winning numerous awards. Charles was involved with The Robert A. Taft Institute of Government, The Knights of Columbus, and The Lions Club. He was fluent in Slovak and had ties with Comenius University at Bratislava, Slovakia. He was a fierce advocate for scholarship and teaching. Charles is survived by a daughter, Dr. Kimberly B. Zuzak and her wife, Dr. Ana D. Burgos, of Orlando, FL.; two grandchildren, Olivia Grace and Hannah Isabella Zuzak-Burgos. Charles was preceded in death by his parents. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 9th, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 4900 Strathmore Ave., Garrett Park, MD, with the Rev. Robert Buchmeier as Celebrant. Burial will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, MD. Memorial donations may be made in Charles' memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the American Heart Association
