Donald Lawrence “Larry” Kitts passed away peacefully at his home in the presence of family on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

Larry was born May 18, 1947 in Martinsville, VA to Reeford D. and Mary E. Akers Kitts. The family moved around a lot as Mr. Kitts was a construction worker finally settling in Beverly, Oh.

Larry graduated from Fort Frye High School in 1965 and followed his father into the Asbestos Workers Union #44 out of Columbus, OH.  In 1966 he was inducted into the United States Army as a member of the First Infantry Division known as “The Big Red One.” Larry was deployed to Vietnam in 1966 where he served two tours of duty. He received his discharge on St. Patrick’s Day 1969 and then returned to work with his father on construction. Larry retired from the International Association of Heat and Frost Insulation Union Local #80 after 30 years in the trade. After his retirement Larry compiled an instruction manual, “Computerized Layout”, which was utilized by asbestos workers all over the United States. Larry then became the Fiscal Officers for the Village of Beverly serving in that capacity for ten years.

Larry and Charlotte both retired again in 2009 and traveled to Alaska in their RV with their beloved pet Megan. The Kitts have visited all 50 US states as well as several providences of Canada.

Larry loved traveling and photographing the scenery was another of his passions. He had an eye for beauty wherever he was.

Larry was a member of the Beverly United Methodist Church, International Association of Heat and Frost Insulation Union Local #80, Member and Past Commander of the Beverly American Legion Post #389 , Beverly American Sons of the American Legion Squadron #389, 40&8 Voiture Locale #1523, Malta VFW Post 4713, Disabled American Veterans Buckeye State #8, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie # 3665. Larry was also a co-owner of a fishing camp, White Birch Lodge, in Quebec, Canada.

Larry is survived by his wife, Charlotte Flesher Kitts, whom he married on January 14, 1979, Three sons, Michael (Ella)Tullius, Mark (Robyn)Tullius, and Donald “DL” Kitts, Jr. Two daughters, Dawn Renee Kitts and Shelly Marie Kitts.  There are 11 grandchildren and 19 Great-grandchildren, with another on the way. Also surviving are a brother, John H. (Jan) Kitts, and a sister, Susie Denton, and many nieces and nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and his grandparents Hugh and Beatrice Kitts and John and Ruth Akers.

Abiding with Larry’s wishes he will be cremated with internment in the Beverly Cemetery.  No visitation or service will be held at this time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
