William A. Gilmore, Sr.

William A. Gilmore Sr, 90, of Bradford died Monday November 30 at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen following a brief illness. He was born in Haverhill on November 14, 1930 to the late James J. and Goldie M. (Eldredge) Gilmore. Mr. Gilmore graduated from Haverhill High School class of 1948 where he was a member of the varsity baseball team. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy. During the Korean War he served on board the USS Antares AK258 and upon his honorable discharge began a career for over 30 years with the New England Telephone Company from which he retired in the mid-1980s. After retirement Mr. Gilmore and his late wife Marguerite (Margo) Gilmore spent 18 winters in Seminole Florida where he loved to golf and spend time at the beach. Mr. Gilmore was a sports enthusiast and avidly followed the local Boston pro teams. He enjoyed attending games at Fenway Park and the Boston Garden with his family. He also proudly followed his grandchildren’s accomplishments in school sports, theatre and dance. “B” as he was affectionately referred to by family members is predeceased by brothers James J. Gilmore, John E. Gilmore, Richard F. Gilmore, and Robert D. Gilmore, and sisters Mary E. Woelfel, Ruth V. Smyth, and Alice L. Vaillancourt. He was the husband of the late Marguerite (Margo) Gilmore who passed in 2017. His survivors include his children Atty Karen M. Dill of Haverhill, Joanne C. Gilmore of Plaistow NH, Atty William A. Gilmore Jr. and his wife Kim F. Gilmore of Bradford. He also leaves behind his four grandchildren John P. Dill Jr., Kristine M. Dill, Riley G. Gilmore, and William A. Gilmore III as well as many nieces and nephews, and close friend Julie Redding. Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family with burial in Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover.
