Wendell Arthur Mudgett Obituary

Georgia - Wendell Arthur Mudgett passed away on November 29, 2020, of complications related to COVID-19. Wendell was born to Chauncey Shattuck Mudgett and Louella Webster Mudgett on April 11, 1948. He and his sister Joyce were raised on the family farm in North Cambridge and attended the former United Church of Christ in Cambridge. Wendell grew up working on the farm and passed on his love of animals to his own children. He enjoyed soccer and was a member of 4H and Future Farmers of America at Cambridge High School and graduated with a degree in Agricultural Science from Vermont Technical College in 1968. He followed his dream to run the family farm after college, and served his community as a volunteer firefighter, helped open the Cambridge Health Center, and was on the board of the North Cambridge Cemetery Association. One of his favorite memories was traveling by Greyhound bus to attend auctioneer’s training in the Midwest. Mutual friends introduced Wendell to his future wife, Raye Ladd, in fall 1974. They quickly fell in love and were married August 2, 1975. They eventually had three children: Carla, Chad and Charles, and moved to Fletcher, where Wendell worked as the Yard Supervisor at Milton Bradley Wood Products in Fairfax. Wendell and Raye were active members of the Champlain Valley Church of the Nazarene, and Wendell volunteered with Samaritan House to assist the homeless in Franklin and Grand Isle counties. They later lived in Sheldon and St. Albans, and Wendell worked for Peerless Clothing and Century Arms International. Wendell and Raye celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary earlier this year. Wendell is survived by his wife Raye; his sister, Joyce Ranney; his daughter Carla and son-in-law Michael Fleharty; his son Chad, daughter-in-law Heidi, and granddaughter Isabelle; and his son Charles, daughter-in-law Andrea, grandsons Wilder and Cameron; and several nieces and nephews. Wendell was proud that his grandchildren were eighth generation Vermonters. His family would like to express their gratitude to the dedicated caregivers and staff at Genesis St. Albans Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, where Wendell spent the last two years of his life. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 11:00AM at the Church of the Nazarene, 127 Upper Welden Street, St. Albans. In lieu of flowers, those who would like to commemorate Wendell’s life are welcome to make a donation in his memory to the Champlain Valley Church of the Nazarene, PO Box 741, St. Albans, VT 05478, or give to Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, P.O. Box 843116, Kansas City, Missouri 64184-3116 (https://give.nazarene.org/donate/f/134844).
