Obituary

Donald Clarence Johannes, 65 of Cabot, Arkansas passed away on November 30, 2020. He was born to the late Henry L. Johannes and Joann Johannes on October 25, 1955 in Marysville, Kansas.

After graduating from Hanover High School in 1973, he joined the United States Air Force.  He started his military career in Law Enforcement and after an injury moved into being a Communication Technician on the C130s to complete 20 years in the USAF.  After his AF career he worked for the Army & Air Force Exchange Service, retiring after 20 years.  Donald then spent the next 5 yrs. as a maintenance technician working for Spring Hill Baptist Hospital in North Little Rock, AR.  In Dec. of 2018 he began as maintenance supervisor at St. Vincent’s Rehab. Hospital in Sherwood, AR and was promoted to Director of Facility Maintenance in February of 2019.

Don was a people person who loved to talk but was a good listener.  He was always willing to help wherever he was needed.  Don loved his God, Family and Country.  He was a loyal family man and friend.  Don, affectionately known as “Papa” by his grandbabies, was always up for a tickle fight and kept his snack cabinet full for them.  Likewise, he was always the first person they looked for when coming to his house.  Don was an active member of his church.  He loved going for rides on his motorcycle whenever possible as well as going camping and boating.

Those who knew Don knew they could always count on him for a laugh or a smile.  He could be a serious man or the biggest goof.  He always put others first.

Don is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jacque Johannes of the home in Cabot, AR; three children, Joshua (Jennifer) Johannes of Sherwood, AR, Christopher (Leah) Johannes of North Little Rock, AR, and Amanda (Kevin) Schroeder of Fairfield, CA; eight grandchildren: Holt and Violet Johannes, Aiden, Ava, and Gunnar Johannes, Taylor Schroeder, Aislinn Grubb and Justin Schroeder.  He is also survived by his parent in-laws, Don & Dorothy Slaughter of Belleville, KS, 3 sister in laws, Winnie Slaughter of Geneva, NE, Vickie (Rick) Hagen of Belleville, KS and Pat (Lester) Bergstrom of Cuba, KS.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be given to the Park Hill Christian Church Food Pantry in NLR, Toys for Tots or The Wounded Warrior Project.
