James Cecil Shortridge Obituary

JAMES CECIL SHORTRIDGE, 65 years of age of Vansant, VA, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Granville Cecil and Marina Blanche (Hooker) Shortridge. He was a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and was a member of Vansant Church of Christ. James loved the Lord and serving Him and the church. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and was a retired coal miner. He enjoyed hunting, gun trading, flea marketing and was a proud member of UMWA Local Union 2232. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Dennis Gene Shortridge; Paternal Grandparents: Harve and Mary Jane Shortridge; Maternal Grandparents: Ballard Perry and Nina Grace Hooker. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45-years, Janice Adel (Boyd) Shortridge of Vansant, VA; his sons, Christopher James Shortridge of Vansant, VA, Michael Paul (Kim) Shortridge of Chilhowie, VA; Grandson: Kaden Wade Shortridge of Chilhowie, VA; Granddaughter-in-Love: Keshia; 3-Sisters: Karen Moore, Lowell, AK, Connie Charles of Grundy, VA, Bonnie Vanover of Tazewell, VA. Also, survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for JAMES CECIL SHORTRIDGE will be conducted Thursday, December 3, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at the Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Rife (Vansant Church of Christ) and Bill Crigger officiating with burial to follow in the Boyd Ridge Cemetery on Big Fox. Active Pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary Pallbearers will be his flea market and trading buddies, members of Local Union #2232, and Elders and Deacons of Vansant Church of Christ. Special Thanks to the Staff of Legacy Hospice. We will be taking proactive measures to help prevent the spread of any potential illness. In an effort to minimize direct contact, we ask that you consider avoiding shaking hands or physical contact with the members of the family or other guests. Direct Eye Contact, Loving Words, and a Warm Smile can be as meaningful to the families as a traditional handshake or hug, especially during these difficult times.
