Lawrence Conticello Obituary

Lawrence Phillip Conticello passed away December 1, 2020. He was 96 years old. Lawrence was born in Little Italy, Baltimore, Maryland on October 13, 1924 to Joseph and Josephina Conticello, both Sicilian immigrants from Termini Imerese. He was baptized at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Little Italy. Lawrence served in the United States Navy during World War II and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands in the Pacific Ocean. After returning home from the war, he joined the United States Merchant Marines as a boatswain’s mate and travelled the world aboard large merchant vessels. He had interesting and often humorous stories from many of the places he visited. He was, like many men of his time, self-educated and had a voracious appetite for history books and spy novels. He also enjoyed building model trains and had a deep love for classical music and opera. He was preceded in death by his two older sisters, Mary and Annette. He is survived by his loving son Bruno and his daughter-in-law Patty, his beloved granddaughter Alicia and her husband Lorenzo, and by his great grandchildren Lorenzo and Aida. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and their families. A private memorial service will be held in the coming weeks for his immediate family only. Cards may be sent to the family at 410 Hillen Road, Towson, Md 21286. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra by calling 410-783-8124 or go to bsomusic.org.
