Darryl J. Hooks Obituary

Darryl J. Hooks, 57, of East Hartford, passed away suddenly on Friday, November 27, 2020. Darryl was born on February 13, 1963 to Jesse and Mary F. Hooks in Five Points, AL. He attended Thomas Snell Weaver High School in Hartford and joined the United States Army shortly after in 1982. Upon discharge from the military, he began his career at Electrical Wholesalers (later named US Electrical Services, Inc.). Darryl took great pride in his career and responsibilities as he grew with the company throughout every phase of transition. He remained dedicated and an integral employee of US Electrical Services, Inc. for 33 years. In 2004, he met Iris (Colon) Hooks, and they wed in 2011. Darryl and Iris blended a beautiful family together, each from a previous marriage: Tamra (Chimere), Tiffany, Darryl II, and Devvon, Isha, Gisella, Jessica, and Jose. To know Darryl is to know that he was an avid Cincinnati Bengals fan, grill master, jokester, and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. He was affectionately known as "Seville" from earlier days of spinning the latest tunes on Weaver High Schools radio station WQTQ. His love of entertaining and music carried on throughout the years. Darryl was predeceased by his mother, Mary Hooks; and his brother, Harold Frazier. He is survived by his father, Jesse (Mary) Hooks; his wife, Iris Hooks; his children, Chimere (Raymond) Sanchez, Tiffany Hooks, Darryl Hooks II, Devvon Hooks, Isha Vazquez, Gisella Martinez, Jessica Velazquez and Jose Velazquez; his sisters, Veronica and Roslynn Hooks, his brother, Jernigan (Martila) Hooks; nine grandchildren, Cincere, Milan, Laylah, George, Jason, Serenity, Mila, Frank and Jace; a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, a grandniece and grandnephew; and special lifelong friends, John "JC" (Dawna) Carter, Tino (Sharon) Robinson, Kevin "K-Bone" Frederick, Alphonzo (Deanna) White, and Marcus Curry, Sr. To attend the service remotely, please click on the VIDEO tab above on Thursday, December 3, at 10 a.m.
