Verle Eldon Mills

Verle Eldon Mills, age76, of Gering, Nebraska, passed away November 27, 2020, from Covid-19 at Bryan Medical Center East in Lincoln, Nebraska. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 9, 2021, at the Bridgman Funeral Home in Scottsbluff. Please dress casually/comfortable if you knew Verle then you know he wasn't the suit and tie kind of man. Online condolences may be left at www.bridgmanfuneralhome.com. Verle was born to Bernard Mills and Doris Gipple, November 24, 1944, in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming. He attended Morrill High School. He married Irene Nash in 1964, to this union one son was born. In 1968, he married Mary Ann Wilson and to this union two daughters were born. He leaves as his legacy three children, Verle Mills Jr. (Angela), Kim Zimmerman (Cory), and Shelley Schmidt (Michael). He also leaves to cherish his memory seven grandchildren, Johnathon Mills, Michael Albaugh, Brittany Albaugh, Bryant Zimmerman, Brandon Mills, Dalton Beall, and Mary Ann McBride; two step-grandchildren, Dani Straetker, and Andi Furry; 14 great-grandchildren; one sibling, James Mills (Judy); sister-in-law, Maxine Mills; numerous nieces and nephews; aunt, Karen Bryant and aunt and uncle, Mina and Chuck Bayne. His children remember him as an honest, hardworking, stubborn man who never knew a stranger and who would lend a helping hand to anyone. Those waiting to greet him in Heaven his father Bernard Mills, mother Doris Sampson, stepfather Don Sampson, first wife Irene, brother Gary Mills, infant sister, grandson Rodney Beall, and two great-grandchildren. Verle retired from the Scottsbluff County Department of Roads after 41 years of dedicated service, he also worked part time at Dorns' 66 for 20 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and camping, for the last few years he was a host at a campground in the mountains in Wyoming and he loved being out in nature and meeting people from all over the country.

We are so very sorry about Verles Passing. He has been a good friend over the last 6 years we have known him. He was always ready for an adventure whether that was clearing trees off of roads, going on 4 wheeler rides, and just sitting by the camp fire visiting.

Bill and Chris, we just heard about Verle's passing. This breaks our hearts. He was such a good man and had become a friend over the past few years. We will miss him so terribly bad. R.I.P. Verle.
