Mary Elizabeth Zito Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Zito, age 82, passed away on November 30, 2020 at Hamden Health Care Center.  She was the beloved wife of the late William J. Zito.  Mary was born on May 27, 1939 in New Haven to the late John and Mildred Callahan.

Mary was a kind and loving soul.  She had a strong spirit and the gift of intuition.  All who knew her referred to her as a beautiful woman not only because of her physical beauty, but also because of her sweet and generous personality.  She loved travel and reading.  She and her late husband Bill enjoyed cruising immensely, and they attended Air Force reunions all over the country.  Mary’s favorite color was purple, and she had a lifelong affection for cats.  Her husband loved to present her with jewelry, particularly rings on a regular basis.  She was a creative woman who enjoyed decorating her home with floral and ceramic items that she made for each and every holiday throughout the year.  She belonged to the Italian American Club and the American Legion.  She filled her home with love and laughter.  A true definition of her character can be summed up in the following quote “Beautiful faces are those that wear whole-souled honesty printed there”.  Mary fought a long battle with Dementia and was cared for by the wonderful staff at Hamden Health Care Center.  She was also for the last year of her life a patient at Vitas Healthcare which provided Hospice care for her.

She is survived by her five children, Debra (Peter) Levesque of Naugatuck, John Zito and Kim Pupello of North Haven, Thomas (Lisa) Zito of West Haven, Lisa (John) Yena of Scituate, RI, Rebecca Zito of Northford, eight grandchildren, Aaron (Fei Liu) Levesque, Deanna (Michael) Brady, Nicholas ZIto, Parish Yena, Logan Yena, Keene Yena, Liam Kilstrom, Mason Kilstrom and one great-grandson, Jace Levesque.  She also leaves behind one sister, Margaret (Todd) Mckinney and two nieces Amelia and Jesse of Alton, NH.

Due to Covid there will be no visiting hours at this time.  Burial will be a private family service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vitas Healthcare, 199 Park Rd. Ext., Middlebury, CT 06762
