Obituary

On Sunday, November 22, 2020, Leland “Lee” Egan Bruce Sr., adoring husband, wonderful father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away at the age of 87 due to complications of pancreatic cancer.

Lee was born on April 21, 1933 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to Elmer “Bob” Aubrey Bruce and Mable Egan Bruce but shortly thereafter moved to Los Angeles, California where he was raised on 84th Street along with his Midnight Midget band of marauders.  While working at Clark’s Market throughout his High School and College years, Lee attended El Camino Junior College and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Pepperdine University in 1954.  While at Pepperdine, Lee was recruited to Turco Products as a Research Developer for their Aerospace surface lines and was later recruited by U.S. Chem-Mill to head their Aerospace development product lines shortly thereafter.  From U.S. Chem-Mill, Lee was later recruited to McDonnell Douglas Aircraft to head their chemical milling processes division and would later become a minority owner at Aerochem Inc. in Orange, CA where he developed relationships with Aerospace manufacturers worldwide to implement chemical milling processes on commercial and military aircraft.  In 1981, the Aerochem owners sold their interests to Ducommun Inc. and Lee returned back to Boeing (successor to McDonnell Douglas) to finish his career as the leader overseeing the chemical milling research teams and the study of aircraft weights.

In December of 1953, and while working at Clark’s market, Lee first laid his eyes on the eventual love of his life, Glenda Glee Geer.  After several attempts to catch the gaze and attention of Glenda, they shortly thereafter embarked on an 18-month courting relationship and were married on February 10, 1956 in Inglewood, CA.  Lee and Glenda were later sealed in the Los Angeles Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for time and all eternity and have been faithful active members of their faith for the past 64 years.

Given the highly technical nature of his chemistry knowledge, Lee was continuously dutiful to his work career; nevertheless, his beautiful wife Glenda and later 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren were invariably the focus of life.  A deeply devoted husband, always holding hands with his beloved Glenda, Lee spent countless hours with his children and grandchildren surfing, skiing, making movies, playing and watching sports, taking beach days, sharing art techniques and watching over every teen surfer that he could accommodate in his “station wagon”.

His brilliance in the workplace, transferred over to his incredible knowledge of religious scriptures which made him a remarkably God fearing and spiritual man.  Standing at 6’6” tall, he was not only a giant on earth, but his spirit influenced all those around him, each looking to him for increased knowledge of God and the mysteries of heaven.  His ability to teach all those around him with clarity, strength and a profound testimony of Jesus Christ were hallmarks to his spiritual and religious power and influence.

Even with all of the accolades produced from his many leadership assignments in church service, his artistic expertise, his work expertise, his dedication to Boy Scouts of America, and his character development oversight of numerous church youth, the main focus of his life throughout his 64 years of marriage was his princess queen Glenda.  Never at any time did work, church, or even family duties prohibit him from showering his beloved wife with love, affection, gratitude and preferred angelic treatment to the blonde beauty that captured his eye back in Clark’s Market.  Lee’s life revolved around his adoration and affection for Glenda and everyone within their circle of friends, and all of those without, could sense the omnipresence of their devotion to one another.

Preceded in death by his father Bob Bruce, his mother Mable Bruce, his older sister Janet Bruce Wold, and his youngest son Lyle Dean Bruce, Lee is survived by his wife Glenda Glee Bruce, his sister, Kay Bruce Aria, and his 3 children, Traci Lee Brown (married to Scott Douglas Brown), Leland Egan Bruce Jr. (married to Tracy Taylor Bruce) and William Ray Bruce (married to Tali Bruce).  An outline of his services is as follows:

Viewing has been scheduled at Evans Brown Mortuary at 27010 Encanto Drive, Menifee, CA on Thursday December 3rd, 2020 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.

Graveside Service is planned for his interment at Mountain View Memorial Estates at 3115 E. Bengal Blvd., Cottonwood Heights, UT on Saturday December 5th, 2020 at 11:00 AM.

Celebration of Life is tentatively planned for 11:00 AM Saturday, January 9, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 29725 Bradley Road, Menifee, CA. In addition, a Zoom Link will be provided for this service due to Covid-19 restrictions and limits on attendees.
