NEW BEDFORD: Maria Jose (Rocha) Machado, 88, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at St. Luke's Hospital after a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Jose Furtado Machado.

She was born in Feteira Pequena, St. Michael, Azores to the late Luis A. Rocha and Maria P. Amaral. A Communicant of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, member of the Prayer Group of her Parish, and the Amalgamated Union. Formerly employed as a Seamstress at local Textile Industries, until her retirement.

She is survived by a son James Machado and his wife Luzia of New Bedford, a daughter Daniela M. Furtado and her husband Michael of New Bedford, two brothers Jose and Noe Rocha both of Providence, R.I., a sister Rosa Pimentel of New Bedford. Also three grandchildren,  three great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, Dec. 02 from 5 to 8 PM, at the Cabral Baylies Square-Lamoureux Funeral Home, 512 No. Front Street, New Bedford. PLEASE be advised that due to the COVID-19, there are strict guidelines that must be adhered to for the safety of everyone. You must wear a face-covering to be allowed entry to the services.

Relatives and friends are invited  to attend her funeral mass on Thursday, Dec. 03, at 9 AM in Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford, however due to the current restrictions only 100 people are allowed in the church at one time, and every one have to wear also a face-covering. Interment at Pine Grove Cemetery.

A memorial celebration will be planned at a later date when family and friends may gather safely.
