ElRay Duncan Obituary

The funeral will be live steamed on this website for those who would like to attend virtually.

ElRay Peter Duncan, of Neola, Utah, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of November 27, 2020 at the age of 90.
He was born October 20, 1930, in Neola, to Ivan Henry and Maria Keel Duncan.  He was the seventh of eight children.  He lived his childhood on the same ranch where he passed away.  He married Bonnie Jean Chivers on Sept 23, 1950.  They raised 6 children--four sons and two daughters.
ElRay was a farmer/rancher most all of his life.  He worked odd jobs early in his married life.  One cold winter, he worked around Roosevelt and south of Ouray on the seismograph rig.  He later suffered a ruptured disc in his lower back and realized he couldn't do manual labor so he applied to be a bus driver for Duchesne County School District at the request of his uncle, Elden Duncan.  That occupation lasted 35+ years,  retiring in 1987.  He transported students daily to and from school, and back and forth to various activities around the state.
Along with the bus driving, ElRay enjoyed milking cows for a number of years, then raised beef cattle.  He also enjoyed making friends and telling stories with anyone and everyone.  He loved a good yard sale or making a trade with someone for a cow, horse, or almost anything.  He was an avid Utah Jazz fan, could fix almost anything, and tell time by just looking at the sun.  He enjoyed growing vegetables, and loved his apricots!
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving many years in various callings including ordinance worker in the Provo and Vernal temples.  One of his favorite callings was as an advisor in the Young Men program.  He was a good example of a true Christian.  His greatest joy came from interacting with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  He was especially good with the little ones and was known as the "baby whisperer".  He truly loved his family and we love our Grandpa D!
ElRay is survived by his wife of 70 years, Bonnie Duncan, his six children--Mark (Trisha), Steven “Beaver” (Gwen), Keith (Debbie), Laurie (Tom) Davis, Cory (Pam), Marianne (Steve) Searcy, 27 grandchildren (plus 22 spouses), 88 great-grandchildren (plus 3 spouses),  2 great-great-grandchildren and sisters, Thelma Robbins and Marjorie Hunter.   He was preceded in death by a grandson--Lucas Duncan, and a grandson-in-law--Travis Olsen.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at the Neola Chapel.  There will be a viewing prior to the services from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Neola Cemetery .
