Hazel Rosetta Terry Obituary

Hazel Rosetta Terry, 91, of Trenton, MO, passed away peacefully at 2:50 a.m, on November 28, 2020 at Wright Memorial Hospital.  She was a resident of Sunnyview Nursing Home for the past year.

Hazel was born February 19, 1929 near Hackney, Kansas to the   late Leroy and Alma Lavely Terry.  Hazel lived in Kansas until her family moved to Trenton in 1941.  She attended Central School 7-9th grade then attended Trenton High and graduated in 1947.  After graduation, she worked at Mattingly’s and SH Kress (5 and dime store).  In 1951, Hazel was employed as a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone. In 1960, she transferred to Chillicothe after the Trenton office closed.  Then in 1977, she transferred to the Independence, MO office.  Hazel retired after 39 years, 4 months and 28 days.  She then moved back to Trenton, where she lived and cared for her sister.

Hazel loved the time she spent volunteering with the OATS, RSVP program and North 65 center.  She was a devout Christian woman of faith and attended the 10th Street Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing cards, putting jigsaw puzzles together and playing scrabble and bingo with her friends at the North 65 center.

Hazel is survived by her sister-in-law Anna K. Terry of Farmington, NM; her nieces Anna Strauss (Eddy) of Aztec, NM and Linda Hawthorne (David) of Farmington, NM, grandnephews Luke Hawthorne (Kristy) and Henry Strauss (Ashlyn), grandnieces Alisha Hawthorne-Martinez (Johnny) and Samantha Strauss; five great grandnephews and a baby on the way; and numerous cousins and extended family members.

Hazel is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Wilson, John David (JD), Harold Dean (Abner), an infant brother, and sister Estella Terry.

There will be open viewing Tuesday, December 1, 2020 at Slater Neal Funeral Home. Due to covid, services will be held privately by the family at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Trenton.    In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations and condolences to North 65 Center, 2901 Hoover Drive, Trenton, Mo.

We believe that the highest honor we could bestow on Hazel would be to become better

people and to demonstrate the love and care that we feel for each other.  Your time here on earth has been well spent.  Please rest in peace. We will always love you. You have earned your wings, and they are golden.
