Dolores Margaret Kropp Obituary

Dolores M. Fah Kropp passed away from natural causes on Friday, November 20, 2020, at her home at The Lodge in Great Falls, MT. Dolores was born July 28, 1928, in Milwaukee, WI and was raised on a dairy farm. Her parents were Eleanor and Gregory Koeferl. Dolores survived many hardships in her early years and went on to embrace a full and varied life. She faced every challenge that life handed her and succeeded in every way. She and her future husband, Charley Fah, corresponded as pen pals. Charley later travelled to Wisconsin to meet her, brought her back to Montana, and they were married in January 1949. Two children were born to Dolores and Charley, Rita Ann and Jerome Charles. Charley and Dolores shared 37 years together until Charley died suddenly in 1986. Dolores faced sudden widowhood as she did every challenge that came her way, with grace and fortitude. In October 1988, Dolores and Paul Kropp were married. This marriage lasted nearly 20 years, until Paul’s death in 2008. It is notable that Charley and Paul were first cousins. Dolores met Mike Atherton in 2011, and the two became fast friends and companions, dancing as much and as often as they possibly could. Dolores was an accomplished seamstress. She sewed entire wardrobes, she could mend or create anything, and even designed and sewed special-order draperies for Wier Furniture. Knitting was another hobby and dog sweaters and baby blankets were favorites. She loved quilting and created quilts for each of her family members. She was committed to service. She was one of the longest-serving members of the CMMC Auxiliary (Pink Ladies), she enjoyed helping with the mail, and at the hospital Gift Nook. She was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Parish until she moved to Great Falls in 2019. She was a steadfast supporter of her children and grandchildren. Dolores had a varied work life, including the rug factory, dry cleaners, “dime store clerk,” lunch lady, and previously mentioned drapery designer. Her longest employment was in the laundry at St. Joseph’s Hospital and food service at the then Montana State Home for the Aged. She retired in 1988. She is survived by daughter, Rita Fah (Rich) Kuka of Great Falls; son, Jerome (Carol) Fah of Helena; grandchildren, Angelique Fah (Heath) Nordquist of Missoula, Rachel Fah (Jeremiah) of Missoula, Elizabeth Fah of Helena; great- grandchildren Alexandra and Maxwell Nordquist, Piper Standley, Dolores and Cecilia Somberg. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, James and Dennis; one sister, Marillyn; and husbands, Charles Fah and Paul Kropp. A memorial service will be planned in Lewistown after the COVID pandemic eases. Memorials may be sent to the Central Montana Medical Auxiliary, Lewistown, MT.
