Jeannette Manning Willoughby, Ohio Obituary

Jeannette Manning

Jeannette Manning, cherished daughter, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully November 26, 2020, being called home on Thanksgiving Day just in time to join dozens of loved ones for a holiday feast. Born June 19, 1931, Jeannette spent a lifetime defining elegance. Countless calls of condolences during the last few days have all shared the same theme; Jeannette was a lady of ultimate class. And while the family deeply mourns the loss of her physical presence on earth, Jeannette’s most recent years do not adequately define her genuine beauty. The ugly reality of dementia resulted in a lifestyle misaligned from Jeannette’s core being. Though the care she received from the staff at Montefiore throughout the past four years was exemplary, the truest of memories that friends and family will recall span the eight and a half decades prior to the onset of dementia. Jeannette’s physical beauty was matched with an interior glow that made all those around her feel special. A gracious hostess who loved entertaining, Jeannette worried more about the comfort of others before taking care of her own needs. Those who were lucky enough to spend time with her were certain to enjoy her hospitality and famous homemade popcorn. Her strong desire to make those around her feel important was an attribute which transcended all aspects of her life, including a notable career where Jeannette’s sharp attire was nothing in comparison to her sharp intellect. She started her career in the mailroom at Thompson Products and worked her way up the corporate chain in various administrative roles with Channel 8 News and Arthur Andersen. As she continued to be elevated in the ranks, Jeannette spent the majority of her career as an executive assistant at Eaton Corporation. Jeannette, the second oldest of 12 Manning children was reunited with her parents, Frank and Ruth, and seven of her siblings, Gene (Pat), Ruthie, Frank Jr., Donald (Carol), Dick, Patsy Hughes (Hughey-deceased) and Mary Ellen Friend. She was also reunited with her nephew, Chris Hughes; great-nephew, Shane Hughe; and great-niece, Coletta DiCello. She is survived by her younger sister and birthday twin, Rita; and three little sisters, Kathleen, Rosie and Coletta DiCello (John). Jeannette is also survived by 72 nieces and nephews, who won the “aunt lottery” in life. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jeannette’s life Tuesday, December 1, 2020, at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 32114 Vine St., Willowick, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM being officiated by Fr. Steven Breck. Interment will immediately follow at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon Township. Due to the pandemic, strict COVID protocols will be in place at the church and cemetery to protect the health of all. The Mass and cemetery ceremony will be available via livestream on the McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Facebook Page. Arrangements are entrusted to McMahon-Coyne-Vitantonio Funeral Homes in Willoughby and Mentor. To leave condolences for the family or order flowers, visit www.MCVfuneralhomes.com.
