Richard A. Benedict of Andover, MA passed away peacefully on November 13, 2020 after a lengthy illness. He is
survived by his wife, Ellen Fletcher Benedict of Andover and child, Danielle N. Benedict of New York, NY.
The son of the late Michael “Doug” and Arlene (Froberger) Benedict, Rich graduated from the University of New
Hampshire with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and earned an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute. He spent much of his career as a development engineer and technical writer with Hewlett
Packard-Agilent Medical Systems and Philips Healthcare.
A member of Christ Church in Andover, Rich served on the property committee and was co-parish historian. He
enjoyed sailing and working on inventive projects in his home workshop. He also appeared in several local
theater productions, including "ANNIE" (as FDR), "Bye Bye Birdie", and "The Express Line". Above all, Rich
cherished the many fun times he shared with his family, and his wry sense of humor and beaming smile will be
missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Jean Fletcher of Andover and siblings Michael Benedict, Joan Benedict,
and Arlene Benedict. He was predeceased by his brother Charles Benedict and sister Ruth Benedict.
Memorial donations may be made to the Dana-Farber Jimmy Fund Clinic, the American Parkinson Disease
Association, or Christ Church, Andover, MA.
There will be no service at this time. A memorial will be planned for a future date.
