Mary "Minnie" L. Pike Obituary

With profound sadness, the family of Mary (Minnie) Loretta Pike (nee Crawford) announces her passing on Thursday, November 26, after a hard-fought battle with a range of health issues. She was 90 years old. Mom was the beloved, well-dressed, well-coiffed, bejewelled matriarch of her large and extended family. She grew up in Carbonear and in 1952 married Arnold Francis Pike. They moved to St. John’s where, together for 53 years, they raised eight children. Mom poured her heart and soul into her home and family. She was immensely proud of her children and grandchildren. They were her crowning achievement. Mom concerned herself with her children’s welfare, always ensuring they were well-fed, well-behaved, safe, and immaculately dressed. In particular Mom enjoyed baking, cooking and feeding her family – her homemade bread has yet to be reproduced. Her other interests included shopping, fashion, and current events. She followed world politics closely, and always enjoyed a lively debate. Mom always had an opinion and was determined to share it with you. She was especially proud to reach the age of 90, the longest living of all her siblings to date. Mom was a faith-filled person, and her faith guided and comforted her throughout her life. She is predeceased by her husband, Arnold; parents, Lucy and William Crawford; parents-in-law, Maggie and Jack McCarthy; son-in-law, David White; brothers: Bernard (Jean), William, Paul, Adolph, Francis, Father Joseph, C.Ss.R., and Bill; her sister, Sadie (Gerard Short); brothers-in-law, Ed James, Willis White, and Henry Pike (Elsie). Mom leaves to mourn her loving sons and daughters: Paul (Susan), Gloria White, Arnold, Joseph (Pamela), Cauline, Randy (Cavelle Hollett), Bill (Karen), and Mary (Keith Dalton); 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Rose Crawford and Joan James; brother, Jerome (Sheila); and her sisters-in-law: Patricia Crawford and Barbara White; and a vast circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave with visitations on Sunday, November 29, 2020 from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm. Funeral service to take place on Monday, November 30th at 10am from St. Patrick’s Parish by invitation only. If you would like to attend the funeral at St. Patrick's Parish, please call and leave your information with Barrett's. The funeral service will be live streamed for those who wish to attend virtually. Link will be provided on Barrett’s website. Interment to take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy flowers are gratefully accepted or donations in Mom’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. The family offers a special thank-you to Dr. Heather Woodland for many years of care and support, and to the Palliative Care team and staff at the Miller Center. Mom will be sorely missed, and always remembered in love. Rest in Peace, Mom.
