Mary Ann Juenemann

Mary Ann Juenemann, 90, of Colby, died Thursday, November 26, 2020, at Prairie Senior Living Complex, in Colby. She was born October 9, 1930, in Sheridan County, KS, near Angelus, to Alexander and Mary (Robben) Schwarz. Mary Ann grew up on a farm and attended country school. In her free time, after caring for her younger siblings and helping with the farm chores, she learned to sew, crochet, quilt and make crafts. Mary Ann continued to use these skills throughout her life to make beautiful handmade gifts for other people. Growing up, she also enjoyed singing with her family, playing games and attending dances. It was at a dance that a young man, Lawrence Juenemann, caught her eye with his dancing. Mary Ann and Lawrence were married on May 25, 1954 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, in Angelus. To this union, 10 children were born. Between the children and farm life, Mary Ann was kept very busy. She enjoyed keeping up with her children's activities and volunteering at the church and school. Mary Ann and Lawrence enjoyed going to the lake as a family and playing cards and other games. In their retirement, this couple wintered in Texas until Lawrence’s health declined. After his passing, Mary Ann continued to live on the farm for 5 years before moving to Colby. She continued to use her sewing, quilting, and crocheting skills to make gifts for other people as long as her eye sight would cooperate. Besides her family and friends, many people Mary Ann would never meet were blessed by receiving her small blankets and larger quilts include foster children, adults in nursing homes, and people who were homeless in bigger cities. Mary Ann was very thankful for all the time she was given to spend with her family and be able to watch her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow. Mary Ann was preceeded in death by her husband; her parents; her three brothers, Alexander (Junior), Herman, and Irvin; three of her sisters, Loretta Bollig, Janis Schieferecke, and Dorothy Sierra; two grandsons, Brett Spresser and Ted Juenemann; two great grandchildren, John Leland Juenemann and Kassidy Fraiser; one daughter-in-law, Kim Juenemann; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren she had to wait to meet until she got to heaven. She is survived by three of her sisters, Sr. Rita Schwarz, Arvilla Juenemann, and Phyllis Norton; her five sons, Lawrence (Larry), Alvin, Daniel, Steven, Thomas; her five daughters, Marilyn Unger, Janell Antholz, Annette Spresser, Connie Brown, and Susan Pollitt; plus 25 grandchildren; and 34 great grandchildren. Visitation is 5-7:00 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2020, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby, with a Vigil at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass is 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 30, 2020 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Colby, with burial in the Selden Cemetery.
