Bridget M. Hallam

Mrs. Bridget M. Hallam, lovingly known as “Poppy,” passed away at the age of 88 on Sunday, November 22nd in her home while surrounded by family. Born November 11th, 1932 to the late Rose Claire McAvoy and Thomas Martin in Newry, County Down, Ireland, she attended Our Lady’s Grammar School in Newry and University College in Dublin. After immigrating to the United States in 1956, she first pursued a career in radiology technology and radiation therapy beginning at Amsterdam City Hospital and later at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam where she became accomplished in ultrasound and echo sonography. Her career spanned over 30 years. She was a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother who will be remembered for her fiery spirit, love of quilting and sewing, and affinity for tea. Bridget married Harry Hallam of Leeds, England on September 5 th , 1959. Her beloved husband recently passed away on October 5th , 2020. She is survived by four children; Sean (Amelia) Hallam, Kathleen (Joseph) Bushek, Poppy (Orlando) Picozzi, and Peggy (John Graves) Hallam. Her memory also lives on through her grandchildren Sarah (Warren) Hoffman, Devin Hallam, Dana (Peter Kolokithias) Hallam, Alana Picozzi, Genevieve Bushek, Giana Picozzi, and Liam Picozzi. Mrs. Hallam leaves behind her companion pet AiredaleTasha along with nieces, nephews, and extended family. She is preceded in death by her siblings Virginia Woods, Yolande Ekstrom, Claire Acquila, John Martin and Daniel Martin. Funeral services will be private Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill, NY will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL. 17, Chicago, IL 60601in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
