Carolyn Ruth Baker Hot Springs, Arkansas Obituary

Carolyn Ruth Baker

Carolyn Ruth Baker, 91, of Hot Springs, was called to Heaven on Tuesday, November 24, 2020. She was born on December 27, 1928, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to the late Rev. Curtis and Ruth Williams. Carolyn moved to Hot Springs in her senior year of high school and graduated from Hot Springs High. She attended Hendrix State College as a music major. In 1946, Carolyn met the love of her life, Norval Dewitt Baker, while playing the piano at Pullman Heights Methodist Church, where her father was the preacher, and Dewitt had grown up. Dewitt had a beautiful tenor voice, and she was going to be his accompanist. They married soon afterward and since he was in the service, they moved to Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota. Carolyn always accused the Air Force of forgetting they had sent them there, because they were stationed there for 12 years. They continued in service to our nation as a military family for 30 years before retiring and returning to Hot Springs. During that 30 years of moving around, Carolyn acted as pianist, organist, and choir director at many of the stations where they lived. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 50 years; her oldest daughter, Carmen Ruth Dupree; and her sister, Nancy June Price (George). She is survived by her remaining daughter, Nancy Baker; grandkids, Brian Monheiser, Mandy Monheiser, Travis Dupree (Ari), Nancy Dupree-Landsberger (Tom); son-in-law, Clifton Dupree; great-grandkids, T. Kaine Smith, Samantha Monheiser, Grant Monheiser, Julianna Dupree, Ashlynne Dupree, Kohen Dupree, Zoe Dupree-Landsberger; and great-great-grandson, Tyler Delgado. A committed follower of Christ, Carolyn was a member of Piney Grove Methodist Church. Graveside services will be held at Little Rock National Cemetery at a later date, where Carolyn will be buried with her husband. Thanks goes to Dr. English and his office, and a special thanks to Angie, Brian, and Diana at Kindred Hospice Care. Memorials may be made to Folds of Honor, Dept. #13, Tulsa, OK 74182, or to Piney Grove United Methodist Church, 2963 Airport Road, Hot Springs, AR 71913.
