Glen Rush "Pud" Smith Obituary

On Tuesday, November 24, 2020, Glen Rush “Pud” Smith, loving husband and father of three, passed away at the age of 93.

“Pud” was born July 15, 1927, to Horton Smith and Jennie Poe Smith in Francis, Oklahoma. He attended and graduated school in Francis, Oklahoma. On August 30, 1950, he and Jewell “Judy” Hokett were married in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. Pud and Judy had three children: one son, Glen Dan “Danny” and two daughters, Glenda Jo and Mary Margaret.

Pud was in the 506th Trans Helicopter Company, as a helicopter mechanic, in the Army from Jan 21, 1952 to December 24, 1953. He worked for the Frisco Railroad and the MKT “Katy” Railroad as a fireman, from 1944-1961. Pud owned and operated Smith Grocery in Francis, Oklahoma from 1961 to 1969. In 1969 the family moved to Sulphur, Oklahoma where he was laundry supervisor at the Oklahoma School for the Deaf. After 10 years at OSD, he retired to farming and ranching in Coal County.

Pud was a member of the First Christian Church in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He enjoyed his cattle and farming. He was handy with equipment and frequently repaired the tractor, pickup and most everything else that broke. He enjoyed traveling to Alaska and frequenting the casinos with Judy. He was an OU & OSU football and basketball fan. He enjoyed attending the game and later attending the Thunder basketball games.

Glen “Pud” was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell, infant son, Glen Dan “Danny”, parents Horton and Jennie Smith , brothers: HV Smith, Jack Mack Smith, James Smith; sister, Mary Elizabeth Chandler, grandson, Joshua Brandon Sanford and a host of friends.

He is survived by his daughters: Glenda Price and husband, Dewayne of Asher, Oklahoma, Mary Margaret Watson and husband, Alan of Sulphur, Oklahoma and his care givers, Janie, Connie, Margaret and Bobbi, and a host of nieces and nephews.
