<p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">Charles W. (Chuck) Bentel, 94, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Meadville Medical Center.</span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">He was born April 28, 1926 in Sewickley and grew up in Aliquippa, a son of William S. and May Bestwick Bentel.&nbsp; He married his high school sweetheart, Marian J. Patton June 30, 1949; and they were married for 67 years prior to her death April 7, 2017.&nbsp; Marian and Chuck had lived in Meadville for over 50 years.</span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">Chuck was a 1944 graduate of Aliquippa High School.&nbsp; He was a Veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. in Japan, serving from 1944 to 1946.&nbsp; He was a 1949 graduate of Slippery Rock University with a B.A. in Education and a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a Master&rsquo;s in Education.&nbsp; He taught at Penn Hills, was supervising principal at Slippery Rock and Townville and then served as curriculum supervisor and assistant superintendent for Crawford Central Schools.&nbsp; He retired in 1985 following 35 years in education.</span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">Chuck was an active member of First Presbyterian Church having served as a Deacon, Elder and Session member.&nbsp; He was a former board member of the ARC of Crawford County, a volunteer for Special Olympics of Crawford County and Wesbury U.M. Community, and a Redcoat at Meadville Medical Center.</span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">Chuck enjoyed big band and jazz music, previously had fun golfing, and he and Marian loved vacationing on the Eastern Shore of Virginia and Maryland and at Niagara on the Lake in Ontario, Canada.&nbsp; He enjoyed following sports, particularly football, baseball, basketball, and golf at the high school, college and professional levels. Chuck was witty, had a great sense of humor, and was well known and respected throughout the community; but most of all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.</span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Rosenbaum (David) and a granddaughter, Calynn Rosenbaum, all of Cranberry Township; and two nieces, Beth Ann Gabele (Ken) and their family of Cleveland Heights, OH and Gayle Piroli (Larry) and their family of Aliquippa.</span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Lucas.</span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">Family and friends will be received Friday, November 27th from 3 to 6 p.m. at the ROBERT W. WAID FUNERAL HOME, 581 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE where the wearing of masks will be required.</span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">A private funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 28th at the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Brian Jensen, Pastor of First Presbyterian Church, officiating and military honors provided by VFW Post 2006.</span></span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="font-family:georgia,serif;">The public memorial service will be Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 890 Liberty Street, Meadville, with the Rev. Charles W. (Chuck) Bentel, 94, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Meadville Medical Center.
