CECIL DOTSON, 93 years of age of Hurley, VA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Tuesday, November 24, 2020 at his home. Born in Grundy, VA, he was the son of the late John Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Scarberry) Dotson. He was a lifetime resident of Buchanan County, was a member of Bethany Bible Church and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and was a retired coal miner. Cecil worked for the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department under Auburn Ratliff, was in logging, was a lifelong coon hunter, enjoyed fishing, was an avid gardener and loved riding his Kawasaki Mule. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Virginia Ann (Justus) Dotson; infant daughter Mary Helen Dotson; 3-Brothers: Roy Dotson, Leonard Dotson, Scott Dotson; 3-Sisters: Ida Page, Hazel Thornsbury, Edna Tester. Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Barbara Gail Dotson, of the home, Donna Gay (Sammy) Hess, Durham, NC, Cecil Gary (Diana Gail) Dotson, Hurley, VA, Patricia Ann (Terry Allen) White, Lebanon, VA, Gregory Dotson and his partner Louis McBee, Winston Salem, NC, Priscilla Maria (Kevin) Salyer, Elkhorn, KY; 3-Grandchildren: Janie Elaine, Suzi and Bryan; 4-Great-Grandchildren: Tarryn Olivia, Elijah, Isaac and Averie; Life long friend of 85 years Henry May. Also survived by several nieces and nephews including special nephew Jimmy Tester and special friend that called him pops Christina Justus. Graveside Services for CECIL DOTSON will be conducted Friday, November 27, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at Mountain Valley Memorial Park with Pastor Roger Keene officiating with burial to follow. Active Pallbearers will be Jimmy Tester, Claudie Justus, Terry Meadows, Bryan White, Kevin Salyer, Sammy Hess, Terry White, and Harold “Hoot” Dotson. Honorary Pallbearers will be Danny Tester, Bobby Justus, Henry May, Ulvert Dotson, Darrell Dotson and Jason Allison. Special Thanks to Liz Justus and the staff of Special Care Hospice and Pastor Roger Keene for many visits and kind words. We will be taking proactive measures to help prevent the spread of any potential illness. In an effort to minimize direct contact, we ask that you consider avoiding shaking hands or physical contact with the members of the family or other guests. Direct Eye Contact, Loving Words, and a Warm Smile can be as meaningful to the families as a traditional handshake or hug, especially during these difficult times.
