Marvella Joan was born on February 20, 1932, in Orange City, the daughter of William “Bill” and Arta (De Vries) Huisman. She was raised in the Orange City area, where she attended country schools, being the only one in her class through the eighth grade. Following her graduation from the Orange City High School, she enrolled at Northwestern Junior College in Orange City, where she earned her secretarial degree. She was united in marriage to David Darlow Duistermars on December 27, 1952, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. They briefly lived south of Carnes before settling on a farm north of Orange City. In addition to being a homemaker, Marvella worked as a secretary at several Orange City businesses including Silent Sioux, K-Products, Klay and Bastemeyer Law, and Rensink Law. David passed away on October 27, 2017, in Orange City, after more than 64 years of marriage. Marvella was a member of the Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City, where she participated in Coffee Break and Friendship Bible. She was involved in the annual Orange City Tulip Festival and cherished the memories of activities with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Dutch Heritage Boosters and the Saber Saddle Club. Her caregiving spirit often lead her to visit those in need and volunteer with the local Meals on Wheels program. In earlier years she was active in 4-H, where she had been a leader. She found joy spending time with her children and grandchildren, gardening, visiting her sisters, and in fellowship with friends young and old. She is survived by her three children, Shawn, and her husband, Evan Peuse, of Hudsonville, Michigan; Dan Duistermars, and his wife, Terri, and Todd Duistermars, all of Orange City; six grandchildren, Erron Peuse, and his wife, Trisha, of Holt, Michigan; Emily, and her husband, Josh Benton, of Cumming, Georgia; Allison, and her husband, Franklin Rojas, of Honduras; Dani Duistermars, of Orange City; Darbi Duistermars, of Waukee; and Davis Duistermars, of Orange City; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Hazel Prather, of Sun City, Arizona, and Sharon Corrigan, of Salem, Massachusetts; a brother-in-law and his wife, Verle and Connie Duistermars, of Orange City; along with several nieces and nephews.
