Norma June Cochran Obituary

Norma June Cochran, longtime resident of Wellington, Kansas, passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2020 in Emporia, Kansas at the age of 94. Norma was born the daughter of Zenas and June Pearl (Ellis) Short on October 16, 1926 in Osage, Oklahoma. On August 15, 1945, Norma and Raymond Cochran were united in marriage in Independence, Kansas. Together they celebrated 62 years of marriage before his passing in January of 2008. Norma was a member of the First Christian Church where she taught children's Sunday School and was involved in the CWF Women's Group for many years. She was a long time member of the VFW #881 Women's Auxiliary. She worked at Boeing during WWII, and was a Rosie Rivetor. She was a second mom to many Rosedale neighborhood kids. Norma was employed for over 20 years in the cafeteria of Wellington High School. Outside of work, she remained involved with the schools as a lifetime member of the PTA. She loved to sew and crochet. She loved spending time with her family, brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews. Family vacations, for the past 50+years, were the highlight of her life. Her cooking skills for so many friends and family gatherings will be deeply missed, as will her dancing and singing. She was loved by all. Survivors include her daughter, Jenifer Young (Henry) of Lansing, Kansas; son, Richard Cochran (Brenda) of Wellington, Kansas; daughter, Julie Gerleman (Marty) of Americus, Kansas; sister, Beverly Warner of Andover, Kansas; ten grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Zenas and June Short; husband, Raymond Cochran; her brothers: Jerry, Donald and Jack Short and sisters: Janiece Winton, Georgia Schroeder and Carol Cupp. Private family services will be held. Interment will take place at Prairie Lawn Cemetery, Wellington, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her loving memory to the At-Home Health Care, Inc., 417 Commercial Street, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
